Worth GH¢14 million, the nine-floor edifice will serve students of the MUCG and others from different tertiary institutions in and around Dansoman.

The UT Bank and other private equities financed the construction of the hostel, which has an elevator, 178 standard rooms, 11 one-bedroom flats, reading rooms, a kitchen on each floor, junior common rooms (JCRs) and a student support services unit.

It also has a commercial space with modern facilities such as a pharmacy, a clinic, a banking hall, a business centre, a restaurant, a supermarket, a unisex boutique and an Internet cafe.

Others are a bookshop, a gift shop, a hair and beauty shop, a unisex salon, a barber’s shop, a video games centre and a gymnasium.

The Moderator of the Methodist Church of Ghana, the Most Rev Prof Emmanuel K. Asante, dedicated the building and called on prospective students who would be accommodated in the building to use the facility as a rallying point where they would acquire knowledge for their personal development and the advancement of the nation.

The Founder of CentralLink Investments Limited, Dr Ato Essuman, said the investment was to augment the high deficit of accommodation in tertiary institutions.

He stressed that the only 360-bed students’ hostel on the MUCG campus was not enough, looking at the increasing number of students seeking tertiary education, while the government alone could not do everything.

The Principal of the MUCG, the Very Rev-Prof Samuel K. Adjepong, lauded the partnership that led to the building of the hostel, stressing that “this is a dream come true”.

He underscored the timely intervention of the multi-purpose edifice, adding that it formed part of the university’s vision of providing academic excellence for its students.

The Deputy Managing Director of the UT Bank, Mrs Pearl Esua-Mensah, noted that the bank was impressed about the speed with which the edifice was built.

In relation to the memorandum of understanding signed between CentralLink and the MUCG, the new hostel facility will be based on the build, operate and transfer (BOT) system for 45 years.
