Mawuli School crafts five-year strategic plan to improve academic standards
The authorities of Mawuli School in Ho have crafted a five-year strategic plan aimed at improving the academic standards of the school.

As part of the plan, students will be made to excel in all the subjects at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), such that no student will score below C6 in the next five years.
According to the school’s Headmaster, Mr Kwame Tawiah Aggor, the authorities had embarked on strategic thinking to put the school back on its feet, and that issues of absenteeism of teachers and irregular class attendance were being checked.
Honours Day
Mr Aggor announced this at the 66th Honours Day celebration, during which a total of 138 students were rewarded for excellence.
The celebration was on the theme: “Rekindling the vision of the founding fathers: The role of stakeholders in the management of academic excellence.”
He said notwithstanding the decline in the academic performance of the school, it was the second best in the region in the 2015 edition of WASSCE, and assured parents and guardians of improvement in the academic performance in the years ahead.
He spoke about overcrowding in the school and said the school now had an overflowing student population of 3,174.
He indicated that the large number of students posted to the school under the computerised system had overstretched both teaching and non-teaching staff, and added that overcrowding and bringing of food to dormitories by students, coupled with heat, had created a breeding ground for bedbugs.
The headmaster commended the government for a new dining hall and kitchen complex, an assembly hall complex and an 18-unit classroom block which were under construction, and appealed for an additional science laboratory and more bungalows for teachers on the campus.
Stakeholders
Speaking on the theme, the Guest Speaker, Mr Selorm Ababio, appealed to various stakeholders to work in unison towards achieving the dreams of the founding fathers and crown their efforts with selflessness.
He said the various stakeholders must coexist and exhibit complementary roles towards the achievement of their goals.
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Francis Ganyaglo, who was the guest of honour, said parents, teachers, students and the government should all put their hands on deck to enable the students to achieve academic excellence, stating that good partnership among all stakeholders was crucial towards the achievement of corporate goals of every institution.
The Guest of Honour, Mr Richard Nyarko, an old student and Chief Executive of ZDI Company Limited, said there was no pride in mediocrity and that it was sad that the school’s academic standards were falling.
Overcrowding
The Chief Officer of the school, Master Albert Success Awuah, said past glory had faded in terms of achievement at WASSCE, with overcrowding in the dormitories and the dining hall, deterioration of dormitory blocks and infestation of bedbugs compounding the problems.
The chairman for the function, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 as seed money for an endowment fund in aid of needy students while the guest of honour also pledged GH¢10,000 to the fund, with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Mr Benjamin Kpodo, making a pledge of GH¢5,000.
