Mamfe Methodist Girls SHS wins World Robotics and Coding Competition for the second time

The Methodist Girls Senior High School (MEGHIS) in the Eastern Region has for the second time won the World Robotics and Coding Competition.

They beat the Avenues FLL MG Team from Avenue World School based in New York, USA in a virtual contest, which consisted of 5000 teams across the world.

The competition, also known as CoderZ Juniors League, was held by the Intelik/Robogroup from the USA and Israel. 

The 2020 virtual edition of the World Robotics and Coding Competition was made up of 12 regional groups from Africa, Europe, Asia, North and South America.

The Robotics Stars from MEGHIS using method K20 as its coding key won after going through six competitive stages of the final competition.

Challenge

The Operational challenge for the competition, named BasketBot, is a robotics and coding competition which allows participants to code robots to draw balls from baskets into their zones.

Participants were given a period of one week to code and submit before the final competition.

Competition

The competition is to equip students with knowledge in problem solving, critical thinking, and the use of virtual platforms.

Delegation

A delegation from MEGHIS, led by the Headmistress, Mrs. Winnifred Seibu Arthur and Mr Benjamin Amoako, Robotics Patron and 13 second year students in the Robotic Club who participated and emerged as winners called on the Director-General and Management of the Ghana Education Service to introduce their prize to them.

The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh who received  the delegation on behalf of the Director General, congratulated the team for emerging as world champions for the second time in succession.

 " Your achievement wil go down into the archives and your names and that of the school have been written in gold for generations unborn to learn from". "Keep your heads high and remain focused on your studies as you have already demonstrated your prowess to excel in academic pursuit beyond the shores of Ghana", the DDG counseled.
