Leaders must be examples to the youth — Atta Akyea

Adisadel College (ADISCO) in Cape Coast has held its 107th Speech and Prize-giving Day in Cape Coast with a call on all in leadership positions to provide "real leadership" to help nurture the nation's youth into responsible patriotic citizens.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Samuel Atta-Akyea, said beginning from the home, parents, teachers, public and government officials must work harder at building the character of the youth for national development.

He said it was important for the youth to be responsible to  build a strong foundation for their future.

Mr Atta-Akyea advised students across the country to take their studies seriously and develop positive behaviours to support the nation’s development efforts in the near future.

Free SHS

Mr Atta-Akyea, who is a member of the 1981 year group of ADISCO, further called on parents to take advantage of the proposed free senior high school (SHS) programme to educate their children to the highest level possible.

He said the government was committed to using education to enhance human capital for better living conditions.

That, he observed, was because the government appreciated the fact that an educated mind working in the various sectors of the economy meant efficiency and enhanced living standards.

Early on, the minister had cut the tape to hand over a refurbished dining hall to the school.

The Headmaster

The Headmaster of the college, Mr William Kusi-Yeboah, said the school continued to chalk up success in academic and other co-curricular activities.

However, he called for the provision of a means of transport and an improvement in the school’s road network.

He also appealed for more accommodation for staff.

The Board Chairman of the college and Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Cape Coast, Rt Rev. Dr Victor Atta-Baffle, thanked the 1992 year group for sponsoring the programme.

The Vice-President of the group, Mr Cyril Kojo Garison, pledged the group’s commitment to the development of the school.
