Honorary Consul urges more Ghanaians to apply for Indonesian scholarships

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Ghana, Honourable Paskal A.B. Rois has called on more Ghanaians to submit applications to access the Indonesian government's Kemitraan Negara Berkembang Scholarship (popularly known as KNB Scholarship).

The KNB Scholarship is a financial assistance offered by the Indonesian government to prospective international students from developing countries to pursue Master's degrees at Indonesian universities.

The scholarship has been in existence since 1992, however, only two Ghanaians have applied to access the scholarship over the last three years, a situation the Consul found troubling.

Speaking to Graphic Online on the sidelines of a brief ceremony to welcome the latest beneficiary of the scholarship back to Ghana, Honourable Rois extolled the benefits of the all-expenses-paid KNB scholarship which he said offers the experience of studying in top Indonesian universities and living in one of the world’s most diverse and vibrant societies.

He said the scholarship was offered to potential students from developing countries to get their Bachelors, Master's and Doctorate degrees in a wide range of fields of study including Humanities, Engineering, Social Sciences, Sciences and Education.

Honourable Rois who doubles as the CEO MD of Rig Oil International Services (Rois) Limited stated that the scholarship for Bachelors degrees was open to persons aged 25 and below while the Master's degree was open to persons aged 35 and below (with CGPAs of 3.25) and the Doctorate degree scholarship was for persons aged 40 years and below.

Honourable Rois added that the scholarship also aims to contribute towards human resource development in developing countries, promoting deeper cultural understanding between developing countries and strengthening the relationship and cooperation between developing countries.

Beneficiaries

The 2018 beneficiary of the KNB Scholarship, Mr Courage Yaw Krah who studied Master of Science (MSc) Post Harvest Technology at the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) Graduate School said all his expenses including flights to and from Indonesia were covered by the scholarship.

Mr Krah said he had learnt more about processing foodstuffs which he was looking to practice in Ghana.

He also urged more Ghanaians to apply for the KNB scholarship which he said would finance a quality education at a top Indonesian university.

The 2021 beneficiary of the KNB Scholarship, Madam Daisy Armah who would in the next few weeks depart for the Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) Graduate School in Indonesia to pursue a Master's degree in Management Sciences said she was looking forward to beginning her studies.
