GNAT builds classroom block for Pleyo Primary School

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has handed over a two-unit classroom block it constructed for the Pleyo Basic Schools at Pleyo near Nkurakan in the Oterkporlu Circuit, to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The project was completed at a cost of GHC13,000.00 to improve on the school’s infrastructure and enhance academic work.

At a short ceremony to hand over the facility to the GES, the General Secretary of GNAT, Mr David Ofori Acheampong, said last year during the National World Teachers Day held in the Eastern Region, Pleyo Primary School was identified as needing infrastructure and was subsequently picked for support in demonstration of the passion GNAT had for education in the country.

Mr Acheampong thanked the leadership of Pleyo and the adjoining communities for their support in providing communal labour for the project saying, “GNAT will contact some public-spirited organisations and put our heads together to complete work on the other classrooms for the primary section we started.’’

Relationship

He stressed the need for good parent- teacher relationship in the communities, pointing out that parents and teachers must relate well in every way possible and work together in the interest of their children.

The Eastern Regional GNAT Secretary, Mr Daniel Affadu, said good school infrastructure and accommodation for teachers promoted quality education. He pointed out that some teachers refused postings to rural communities because of accommodation difficulties.

The Headteacher of the Pleyo Basic School, Ms Regina Djangma, who received the facility on behalf of the Pleyo Community, commended GNAT for undertaking the project and gave an assurance that it would be properly maintained to serve the community for many years to come.

The leader of the Pleyo Community, Dadematse Moses Teye, also assured the donors that the community would partner the school to ensure that the facility was regularly maintained.
