Teachers receive medical care support
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has presented a cheque for GH¢14,000 to three teachers in the Ho West Municipality of the Volta Region to support the payment of their medical bills.

The beneficiaries are Mr Emmanuel Dzila of Etordome D /A Junior High School, Mr Prosper Kakati of Hlefe D /A Junior High School and Madam Josephine Senusi of Anyinawrase E.P. Basic School.
GNAT made the presentation after it received urgent appeals for support from the members for the treatment of severe burns, injury and hearing impairment.
Madam Senusi and Mr Dzila received Gh¢5,000 each while Mr Kakati had Gh¢4,000.
Narrating her ordeal, one of the beneficiaries, Madam Senusi, with difficulty in hearing for over six years, said she found it difficult to deliver on her job since her problem started.
"In 2015, I felt pain in both ears and decided to visit the Ho Teaching Hospital, where I was told that there was wax in my ear. I was given medication for treatment. I had an appointment then to wash the ear but during the process, the pain was unbearable so they stopped. Now, the pain became intense as it spread to my throat and my back.
"While on treatment, the pain never subsided until I could no longer hear anything not even a sound and I got very worried, so was my headmaster. So he put in a request for assistance from GNAT for me to get a hearing aid to help save the situation," she said.

Presenting the cheque, the Ho District Chairperson of GNAT, Mrs Lois Tipong-Asare, stated that GNAT had been at the forefront, since its inception, in creating opportunities for teachers to benefit from the union and ensuring that each member was well catered for in terms of healthcare services and solutions.
“It has, for instance, set up a cancer fund to help cater for the needs and expenses of their members as well as their spouses and children,” she said.
Explaining why there were sometimes delays in providing the support, Mrs Tipong-Asare said entries sometimes were sorted based on their urgency, adding that every entry request would be addressed expeditiously for better service delivery.
She advised members to take interest in the growth of the association to ensure that good things reached teachers in every community.
Supporting GNAT
The Ho District GNAT Secretary, Mr Wisdom Mawutor Boima, asked the members to support one another and also encouraged them to report any illness or ailment and not to wait till the illness got worse before seeking the needed support.
"We offer financial assistance to every member to help them in their condition, so we call on you to support the union to deliver by making GNAT great." he added.
