The Ridge Church School has celebrated its 69th Speech and Prize-giving Day with a call on learners to uphold diligence and integrity while pursuing academic excellence.
An old student of the school, Mrs Brenda Akuorkor Dua, who made the call, urged learners to embrace hard work, honesty and discipline, stressing that good character was as important as academic success.
The event, which was held in Accra last Saturday, was on the theme: “Diligence and Integrity” and brought together the church, the council, school management, teachers, parents, past students and learners.
Privilege
Mrs Dua, Founder and Creative Director of Studio A.K., an alumna, a member of the school's 1976 year group and a former Head Girl, described her return to the school 50 years after graduating as both a privilege and an emotional moment.
She said Ridge Church School had given her more than academic knowledge, explaining that the institution had instilled in her discipline, responsibility, respect and integrity, values that had guided her personal and professional life.
She encouraged learners to remain diligent in their studies, persevere through challenges and avoid shortcuts to success.
She also urged them to uphold integrity by being truthful, refusing to engage in examination malpractice and making decisions that would earn them the trust and respect of others.
Leadership
She advised learners to see leadership as an opportunity to serve others and make meaningful contributions to society, while commending teachers for their dedication to nurturing future leaders.
The headmistress, Nana Ama Acheampomaa Badasu, said the school's 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results recorded a remarkable improvement over the previous year's performance.
She said the school presented 69 candidates for the examination, with 10 obtaining aggregate scores between seven and 10, 51 obtaining aggregates between 10 and 19, while the remaining eight obtained aggregates between 20 and 24.
Mrs Badasu said the results compared favourably with the 2024 performance, when the school presented 62 candidates.
The best candidate obtained aggregate nine, while 32 candidates scored between 10 and 19, 21 obtained aggregates between 20 and 29 and eight recorded aggregates between 30 and 40.
She attributed the improvement to the commitment of teachers, learners and parents.
The Chairperson for the occasion, Mr Danny Mawuenyega, Council Chair of Accra Ridge Church, thanked the school for the honour of chairing the event and prayed for a successful celebration.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to learners who distinguished themselves in academics and other co-curricular activities during the academic year, while some staff members were also recognised for their dedicated service to the school.
