Family head launches education fund to support students

The head of the Naa Densua Family at Korle Gonno in Accra, Papa Nii Masope-Crabbe, has launched a GH¢100,000 education fund with a call on parents to make the education of their children a priority.

At the launch of the fund last Saturday, he voted GH¢20,000 as seed capital for the fund to support brilliant, needy students in the area.

He explained that the fund would particularly focus on orphans, persons with disability and students whose parents were poor and could not provide them with their needs in school.

The programme was attended by personalities, including the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mr Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah.

Motivation

Nii Masope-Crabbe said the motivation to set up the fund was to help deal with school dropout rate in the coastal community, and long-term measures to fight poverty in the area.

“When you look at Ga families in coastal Accra, most of our children do not go to school because of poverty and this is seriously affecting their future.

“I decided to start the Naa Densua Education Fund so that our children who drop out of school, especially after senior high school (SHS), can be supported to continue their education to the tertiary level and help to build our communities in the future,” he said.

At the same event, Nii Masope-Crabbe also launched a life insurance scheme for the Naa Densua Family.

He said the insurance scheme was to cater for the needs of the family during unfortunate events such as accidents and deaths, indicating that the scheme was a partnership between the family and Glico Life Insurance Company.

Discipline

In his address at the event, Mr Sowah commended Nii Masope-Crabbe for the bold step he had taken to improve on education among the youth of the Ga community.

He said investment in education was the best legacy parents could give to their children.

Mr Sowah urged the youth in the area to be motivated by the launch of the fund to learn hard and become responsible people in the future.

The Accra MCE also called on residents of the area to be disciplined and resist the temptation to use violence in settling disputes.

In particular, he urged them to stay away from all forms of political violence in the run up to the 2020 general election.

Mr Sowah also called on the residents of coastal communities to support the government’s effort to rid the country of filth by staying away from acts that polluted the environment.
