Counsellors congratulate Professor Ernest Kofi Davis

The Guidance and Counselling Association of Ghana has congratulated Professor Ernest Kofi Davis on his recent appointment as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The association expressed the belief that robust guidance and counselling services were fundamental in nurturing resilient, well-rounded individuals capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st Century.

“The Guidance and Counselling Association of Ghana stands ready to collaborate with Professor Davis and the Ghana Education Service.

“We are committed to supporting initiatives that will revamp guidance and counselling across Ghana’s educational institutions, ensuring that our students receive the holistic support necessary for academic, career, social and personal growth,” the association said in a statement.

It recalled that under Prof Davis leadership as Provost of UCC, he promoted guidance and counselling both as an academic discipline and a service in the university.

“We have no doubt in our minds that you would pay special attention to guidance and counselling as a service.

“Once again, congratulations to Professor Ernest Kofi Davis on this well-deserved appointment.

We look forward to partnering with him to drive transformative changes in guidance and counselling in the pre-tertiary sector of Ghana,” the statement said.

Professor Davis brings with him an exemplary record of academic excellence and visionary leadership.

Educational journey

His journey in education began in 1976 at Self-Reliance Kindergarten in Cape Coast and continued through esteemed institutions, including the Presbyterian Primary School in Abowinmu, Aboom A.M.E. Zion School, and Mfantsipim School where he earned both his “O” and “A” Level certificates.

He further distinguished himself academically at the University of Cape Coast, graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics.

His pursuit of knowledge earned him a master’s degree in mathematics education from Hiroshima University in Japan under a prestigious Japan International Cooperation Agency scholarship, and later a PhD in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia through the Australian government scholarships.

Professional work

Rising steadily through the academic ranks—from Senior Research Assistant to Professor—he has not only supervised numerous theses and published over 50 peer-reviewed articles but also played a pivotal role in developing the national Bachelor of Education curriculum for teacher preparation in 2018.

Beyond his impressive academic and professional milestones, Professor Davis has served with distinction as the Provost of the College of Education Studies at the University of Cape Coast.

His dedication to transforming education through innovative policies and curriculum development makes him the ideal leader to steer GES to new heights.
