Avoid ills of society - DCOP Fosu-Agyeman
The Deputy Regional Police Commander in-charge of the Northern Region, DCOP Felix Fosu-Agyeman, has called on students to desist from drug abuse and other social vices.
He said in order that the students become responsible citizens, they must shun the ills of society, such as sexual harassment, robbery, among others saying “they are a dent on the image of the youth as the future leaders of this country.”

Speaking at the 17th matriculation ceremony of the Wisconsin International University College in Accra, Mr Fosu-Agyeman charged the students to see themselves as the beacon of hope of the country and strive towards becoming agents of change in society.
Right attitude
Mr Fosu-Agyeman also entreated the 1,203 new students, comprising 373 males and 830 females to develop good character as they pursued their academic goals.
“Today’s matriculation ceremony gives you the rights and privileges as students of this university. However, it does not guarantee your academic success until you put up a good behaviour and work diligently at your daily studies. The level of success will depend on the attitudes and choices that you make while on campus,” he said.
Discipline
Mr Fosu-Agyeman also underscored the need for students to be disciplined, adding that “a disciplined individual respects authority, exhibits honesty and lives a life of peace and unity.
“Discipline is a system of training put in place to improve strength and self-control. A disciplined person has good interpersonal relationship with fellow students and teaching staff,” he continued.
Value
The Vice-Chancellor of the college, Prof. Obeng Mireku, advised the students to add value to themselves as they got used to campus life.
“You are here to add something important and valuable to your life and become responsible people in society. You are here to develop your talents so that you can contribute meaningfully to the development of yourselves, family, community, Ghana and the world at large,” he advised the students.
Prof. Obeng-Mireku reminded the students of their responsibility as ambassadors of the university adding that “Everything you do as students in and outside the university must not bring the image of the school into disrepute but rather bring honour and fame to the university. You must take your studies very seriously and graduate with flying colours,” he added.
Commendation
Prof. Obeng-Mireku commended some continuing students whose personal endeavours had projected the school in a positive light.
He commended Ms Anita Bossah Adzokpa for contesting in TV3’s Beauty Pageant, “Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2019”, Ms Belinda Elikplim Chamenyl, a level 300 LLB student, for chairing a committee session at the just ended World Youth Summit held in South Africa, Mr Fred Danso for placing 2nd in GTV’s popular quiz competition, “What Do You Know?”, and Mr Marcus Omaw Adu, a level 300 law student, on the launch of his latest book, “Transforming The Mind; Becoming A Better Person”.
