Aburi Girls old students donate to Psychiatric Hospital

The 2000 Year Group of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School last Saturday, donated some items to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The items included liquid soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, adult diapers, bleach, bags of beans, bags of rice, cooking oil and corn dough.

A member of the group, Ms Grace Ofosu-Donkor, who spoke on behalf of the president, said they were moved by a recent media publication that highlighted the state of the facility and difficulties faced by workers and inmates.

“Our year group is part of the national association but we decided to do this donation immediately because we realised the many challenges the hospital faces.

We see their current situation as an emergency which need prompt action.

“We also understand that any of us could end up in the facility and so it is important not to neglect those here now. All the items we presented today are either sold or produced by members of the association,” she said.

A Nurse at the hospital’s Children’s Ward, Ms Makafui Agbeko, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the group and promised that they would be put to good use for the benefit of patients at the facility.

“A lot of people bring their relatives and friends here for treatment and never bother to check on them or provide their needs.

The facility is run mostly on such benevolent donations of groups and associations, if not for the support like this, we won’t be able to take care of them,” she said”
Ms Agbeko appealed to other organisations to come to their aid.
