Ghana Gas supports Akropong School for the Blind

Ghana Gas Company has taken the initiative to construct a security gate and refurbish the kitchen of the Akropong School for the Blind.

The security gate will prevent intruders and other criminals from having access to the school compound, while the kitchen will ensure a decent preparation of meals for the students.

The Ghana Gas Company will engage Asamoah Welbeck and Associates Company Limited to construct the two facilities.

At a sod-cutting ceremony on the school's premises for the commencement of work, the Project Manager of Ghana Gas, Ayimah Edomgbole, said the provision of the security gate was in response to a request from the school's authorities few months ago to help ward off miscreants.

School request

He also indicated that the school requested a decent kitchen to replace the dilapidated one that was not safe for the preparation of meals.

Thereafter, Mr Edomgbole added, officials of Ghana Gas visited the school to acquaint themselves with the problems and how best to offer support.

He told the gathering that it had been the policy of Ghana Gas to complete its projects within six months and as such, the contractor must adhere to the time frame.

Funds available

According to the Project Manager, the necessary funding would be made available to the construction firm to enable it to execute the job expeditiously.

Mr Edomgbole urged the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly within which the school is situated to take a keen interest in the construction of the two facilities by monitoring the construction works.

He appealed to the school authorities to co-operate with the construction firm.

Timely intervention

The Headmistress of the school, Veronica Dery, said the provision of the security gate had been timely and that it would enhance the security of the students.

She said the entry of unwanted persons to the school to steal from the vulnerable students would now be a thing of the past.

With regard to the kitchen, Ms Dery said the old one was not good for the preparation of meals and that the construction of a new one would enable the students to enjoy healthy meals.

The Chief of Amanokrom, Oyeeman Nana Osim Kwatia II, who is also the Gyasehene of Akuapem where the school is located, thanked Ghana Gas and all other organisations that had assisted the school for their benevolence.
