GES commends heads of SHSs for prompt response

Five hundred out of the 553 senior high schools (SHS) that failed to submit their returns on the funds released to them under the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy have so far done so.

This was in compliance with the directive by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, that heads of schools that had not yet submitted their returns had up to Friday, January 12, 2018 to do so.

As of last week, 553 out of the total of 670 heads of senior high schools failed to submit the returns for the first term of the academic year, compelling the Director-General to issue an ultimatum to those heads to submit their returns immediately or face sanction.

Positive response

A statement signed and issued by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the service, Ms Cassandra Twum Ampofo, described the response of the heads of senior high schools as “positive” and that it had “greatly enhanced the processing of documentation towards the payment of supplies to the senior high schools.”

The statement expressed the hope that the heads of SHSs would continue to cooperate with the GES and the Free SHS Secretariat for the successful implementation of the Free SHS policy.

“The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to commend the heads of senior high schools for their timeous response to the January 12, 2018 deadline by the Director-General of the GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa,” the statement said.
