That, he said, would promote peaceful coexistence and harmony among the various ethnic groups and nationals from other countries.

“It will be easier for all of us to live as one if we respect, understand and tolerate the culture of others,’’ he said.

Mr Ntow made the remarks at the 11th Galaxy International School (GIS) intercultural festival at the school’s secondary section premises in Accra last Saturday.

The annual event, held on the theme “Towards global peace”, was to provide a platform for students of the school, who come from different countries, to showcase their culture and also understand and appreciate other cultures.

Guests who thronged the event were treated to dance and musical performances from 35 countries from the six continents.

The countries represented showed the nationality of the students of the school.

There was also a showcase of food, clothing and artifacts from those countries.

Cultural diversity

Mr Ntow emphasised the importance of cultural diversity to the development of the country, adding “we need to champion development in our community irrespective of our cultural differences because we are all one people”.

He lauded GIS for initiating the festival to drum home the need for people to coexist in order to achieve global peace.

For his part, the Principal of the school, Mr Hakan Karaman, said the ability to embrace other people’s cultures was a prerequisite for social cohesion and development.

The event, he said, was also meant to highlight the need for tolerance and dialogue in any conflict resolution process.
