Female student emerges best at KNUST congregation

Miss Dorothy Gyamerah-AkoA female Business student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Miss Dorothy Gyamerah-Ako, emerged the Overall Best Student during the 47th congregation of the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) last Saturday.

Miss Gyamerah-Ako, who delivered the valedictory speech on behalf of her mates, commended the university authorities for building their capacity and providing them with the requisite skills to make them more competitive on the job market.

According to Miss Gyamerah-Ako, as fresh graduates, they are aware of the numerous challenges confronting them  on the job market, but with the skills acquired, they are capable of overcoming them.

A total of 937 students  graduated from the College of Art and Social Sciences; 157 of them, representing 16.8 per cent, received First Class honours, with 628, representing 67 per cent, being awarded with Second Class Upper Division.

A total of 140 students, representing 14.9 per cent, graduated with Second Class Lower Division, while 12 students, representing 1.3 per cent, had ordinary pass.

The Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences, Prof. Sam Afranie, said in line with its objectives of promoting meaningful research works to enhance effective academic programmes, the college had started collaborative links with a number of international institutions.

He said the collaboration, which is mutually beneficial to the respective institutions and started two years ago, involved the college and the Pennsylvania State University in the United State of America (USA), Kolding School of Design in Denmark and the Jinkonpeng International Business School in Sweden.

Explaining further, Prof. Afranie said it also involved exchange programmes for both students and lecturers from the respective institutions.

The Provost also announced that the Department of Publishing of the university was collaborating with the Ghana Publishers Association of Ghana to run and facilitate an advocacy programme.
