The educational outreach to the Christian Methodist Senior High School, Odorgonno Senior High School and the Ghana Lebanon Islamic Senior High School formed part of the faculty’s efforts to encourage especially female SHS students to pursue STEM programmes.

The activity created a platform for team ATU to engage directly with the SHS students through presentations, personal interactions and hands-on activities.

Topics that were discussed included entry requirements, faculties and their respective programmes and scholarship scheme for females interested in pursuing STEM programmes, among other ATU unique offerings.

Speaking in an interview, a Lecturer at the Science Laboratory Technology Department, Saeed Alhassan, reiterated the purpose of the outreach.

Priority

He intimated that as a technical university, ATU prioritised STEM education in line with the grand agenda of the Ministry of Education.

“Accra Technical University is on a mission to whip up interest in STEM programmes among the youth, especially females.

“We recognise the deficit in female numbers pursuing STEM education and so we felt the need to reach out to SHSs to enlighten them to appreciate what STEM is and what ATU has to offer in this regard,” he added.

The outreach programme also had a question-and-answer session where students had the opportunity to interact with the members of the group.
