Education key to self-reliant future

The Richard Akwei Memorial School has organised its nine lesson and Carol service on Wednesday in Accra with a call on parents and guardians to invest more in the education of their children and wards.

This, according to the various speakers at the event would enable the children to become self-reliant in future.

Speaking at the programme, the Accra Metro Director of Education, Mrs Margaret Frempong Kore said quality education called for sacrifice.

She was of the view that if parents did not invest in their children now, it could lead to the children becoming wayward and a burden not only to their families but also nation at large.

She indicated that education was a shared responsibility and that a country that failed to develop its people intellectually was doomed, “Mother Ghana is looking up to this ones and so if you teach well, if you care for them well then our future is known. I can be confident that when I get to the hospital I am going to see a very good doctor’

Underscoring the importance of education, the MP advised parents in his constituency to stop patronizing funeral clothe to the detriment of investing in the education and the wellbeing of their children.

“You cannot wear the clothe that you buy for the next ten years, you cannot continue to drink that alcohol for the rest of your life, but if you use that money to invest in the education of your children and their wellbeing, they will grow to become better citizens and take good care of you at you old age” he explained.

The Headmaster of the school, Mrs Emelia Larbie, described the academic performance of the school over the years as the best in the area.
