The village, which has no source of safe drinking water, shares a dam located at the outskirts of the village with their animals as the only source of water for the community.

In view of the difficulty in having access to water, pupils of the Techelli Basic School always run home to drink water anytime they were thirsty but many of them did not  return to school.

The plight of the school with regard to safe drinking water came to the attention of Creating Change and with the assistance of Mckechnie Elementary School in Canada, funds were mobilised to provide a rain-harvesting tank for the school to ensure that the students had access to water while in school.

Speaking at a ceremony to officially hand over the rain water harvesting tank and a library facility to the school, the acting Programmes Manager of Creating Change, Madam Eunice Akpeere, said the move by her organisation to provide the facilities for the Techelli Basic School was in response to a development programme designed to improve quality education at the grassroots.

“As part of the programme, school buildings and rain-harvesting tanks have been constructed in addition to the provision of teaching and learning materials for rural schools,” she added.

She said when the problem of pupils of the Techelli Basic School came to their attention, they contacted the Mckechnie Elementary School through their partners and they quickly mobilised money to provide a rain-harvesting tank for the students.
