The school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) initiated the project which was estimated at GH¢72, 559.30  four years ago.

The computer laboratory was provided to give the children the needed training in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

At a ceremony to inaugurate the facilities, the Parish Priest of the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr. Samuel Filton Mensah, urged the school’s authorities to make good use of the facilities.

The facilities were named after two individuals who contributed immensely to the project and supported the establishment of the school.

They are Emeritus Archbishop Dominic K Andoh and Mrs Helena Parker.

The event was on the theme: “Information and Communication Technology in Basic Education:Challenges of our Time”

Father Filton Mensah appealed to the school’s authorities to adopt certain strict measures that would stop the children from exploring negative sites on the Internet.

“Let us not restrain our children to the past with the excuse that there is no money, thus denying them a future that enables them to express themselves electronically or digitally and also making them marketable in their fields of endeavour”, he added.

“I see in your eyes a burning passion for quality education but without ICT and a reading culture, the modern school child is as good as belonging to antiquity,” he indicated.

According to him, the laboratory has a capacity to take  62 desktop computers and is estimated to cost GH¢1,000.00.

Father Mensah appealed to the government and donors to support the school.

“The computers are not for games but for serious studies and I urge the school’s authorities to organise refresher courses for teachers on the use and application of computers, ” he stressed

The Headmistress of the School, Ms Felicia Abakah, commended the PTA for their support and said  “the facilities are a dream come true for the school as our student performance in ICT is lacking behind”.
