BECE results out; 113 schools withheld for registering unqualified students

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released provisional results of 383,812 out of 391,082 candidates who wrote this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The figure represents 98.14 per cent of candidates who sat for the June examination.

A statement signed by the Principal Public Affairs Officer of WAEC, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, said the results would be dispatched through the district directors of education.

Meanwhile, it said, the council had posted the results online and candidates who so desired might access them.

Withheld results

The statement said the entire results of all candidates presented by 113 schools had been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various examination irregularities.

“In the same regard, the entire results of 1,024 individual candidates from other schools are being withheld. The withheld cases include those of schools which were alleged to have registered unqualified students in JHS 2 from other schools,” it said.

Registration of unqualified students, the statement said, entailed forgery of Continuous Assessment Scores, which was an examination malpractice and should not be countenanced.
