The day, which was celebrated on the theme, "Helping change 5 million futures by 2015", is observed annually by the bank, during which the staff take up a project  to help improve the quality of life of people in its catchment area.

According to Mr Emmanuel Fred Abban, the branch manager, the main aim of the competition was to develop and inculcate the culture of reading in the youth.

He said it was also to mentor them to improve their reading skills.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Comfort Foli, commended the bank for initiating the programme in the school because it had improved the reading skills of the children since the bank adopted the school last year.
