Agogo College of Education working to woo more female teacher trainees
The Agogo Presbyterian Women's College of Education (APWCE) in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti region is to modify and make its admission processes less cumbersome to attract more potential teachers, especially those who reside outside the cities.
It is expected to take full advantage of Ghana's digitalisation programme to encourage more online applications for prospective students and afford them ample time to complete the registration process and settle early on campus.

The Principal of APWCE, Rev. Dr. Mrs Grace Sintim Adasi, made this known at the 16th matriculation ceremony for 450 women into the college.
The number was out of 2271 applicants and although 1182 qualified only 450 could be admitted due to infrastructural challenges.
The principal said the college was working hard with relevant institutions to make it a college of choice for female teacher trainees.
She said plans were also afoot to make the college a credible research-based institution in the country.
Women power
“We are focused on developing the woman-power to provide the needed learning opportunities, especially in literacy and numeracy skills," she said.
Rev. Dr. Mrs Adasi said the college was committed and prepared to offer credible academic training, research and good moral upbringing to students to enable them to grow up as responsible adults.
She encouraged staff of the college to pursue their PhD programmes in order to help use the knowledge and skills gained to better the institution.
Challenges
The principal indicated that the college was facing infrastructural challenges for which reason it could not admit many prospective applicants.
She appealed to the government, friends of the college, and other stakeholders to assist in the purchase of a new bus to convey students to and from teaching fields.
Currently, a large portion of the college's land has been encroached on by private developers as authorities struggle to deal with the situation.
The principal is calling on the relevant state institutions and chiefs to help win the "battle".
She also appealed to the government to assist build hostel facilities for students, more lecture halls, science laboratories, library and construction roads.
