Pa Gya! Literary Festival marks a decade of stories and ideas in Accra

Accra is set to become a major gathering place for writers, artists, readers, and literary enthusiasts as Pa Gya! A Literary Festival in Accra celebrates its 10th edition from October 16 to 18, 2026.

Organised by the Writers Project of Ghana in partnership with Goethe-Institut Ghana and the Foundation for Contemporary Art (FCA), the festival will bring together more than 80 writers, artists, and speakers from Ghana and at least 13 other countries for more than 70 events.

The main programme will take place at the Goethe-Institut Ghana and FCA in Cantonments, with selected workshops held at the British Council and dot.ateliers.

Since its launch in 2017, Pa Gya! has grown into one of Ghana’s most significant literary gatherings, providing a platform where literature intersects with theatre, poetry, film, visual art and publishing.

This year’s programme features book launches, readings, panel discussions, performances, exhibitions, film screenings, masterclasses and a book market.

Adding historical depth to the anniversary edition is the Ghana Literary Exhibition: Books, Voices & the Making of a Literary Culture, presented by Elizabeth Johnson.

The exhibition opens at FCA–Ghana on October 15 and traces key chapters in Ghana’s literary history.

International and Ghanaian guests include Jeffery Renard Allen, Dr Phillippa Yaa de Villiers, Dr Wale Okediran, Eghosa Imasuen, Carina Ray, David Cabrera, Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, and Boakyewaa Glover.

Highlights include a keynote conversation between Prof. Ato Quayson and Kinna Likimani; a talk on Kojo Laing’s Search Sweet Country; film screenings, including The Eyes of Ghana; and the New Voices Fiction Contest awards.

Fourteen masterclasses begin on October 14, and the festival closes on October 18 with Live Across Africa, its signature poetry showcase.

With all main festival events free to the public, the 10th edition promises not only to celebrate a decade of literary exchange but also to reaffirm Accra’s growing place on the international literary map.
