Lipstick Queens host Homowo bash at +233
The Lipstick Queens band reign on Wednesdays at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra with their wide repertoire but there’ll be an extra dimension to the session slated for August 30.

That’s when they host a special Homowo bash themed: ‘Promoting Womanhood and Our Heritage Through Music’.
Homowo is the annual traditional festival of the Ga people and the Lipstick Queens want to help seal this year’s celebrations with a big dose of fun for all.
Apart from some exciting mood-lifting Ga music from the all-female band, there will also be guest appearances by the famous Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame; Essie who came to fame through TV3’s Talented Kids show; United States-based singer Lady Talata, Epixode and Showboy. There will also be a comedy sketch from a surprise act, as well as comments from a well-known gender activist.
The Lipstick Queens have also scheduled a free breast-screening exercise from 4p.m. to 5p.m. at +233 on the day of their Homowo concert.
The band’s co-leader and keyboardist, Sita Korley says to give the event a real Homowo flavour, a traditional priest (Wulomo) will pray to get things going at 7p.m. Some Ga chiefs and queenmothers have accepted to be present at the programme.
The Lipstick Queens comprise Vida Ofoli (percussion, flute), Ruby Nunoo and Abigail Tetteh (lead vocals), Sita Korley (keyboards), Abena Pomaa (guitar), Winifred Thompson and Ama Ekem (bass) and Abigail Aniapam (drums).
Together since 2014, the band is versatile and confidently takes on all shades of music including Highlife, Jazz, Reggae, Afrobeats and R&B/Soul. They constantly keep gaining followers which Sita Korley puts down to their hard work and not simply because they are all-female outfit.
The band hopes to make the Homowo bash an annual affair to be held at different venues as one of the ways of shoring up their fan base.
