Making amends with your mom… it’s about time!

Making amends with your mom… it’s about time!

It’s mother’s day, you watch the ads on television and either get all sentimental and start to shed some tears or you avoid the subject and turn off the T.V.

Either way If you have issues with your mom or not on speaking terms, it’s about time you made amends.

The mother-daughter relationship is one of the most unique yet complicated relationships, especially in modern days.

She is probably the closest person to you.

The first female role model you had.

But life is complicated, and sometimes growing up can be so difficult that eventually, you grow apart.

There could be a million reasons, why you are not on speaking terms with your mom, and I know what you are thinking right now, you’re thinking “You don’t know my mother”, “You don’t know what she’s done to me” etc.

But let’s make a deal before you judge your mom, there are things you need to consider.

She is just like me and you

They say mothers are angels, but that’s really not fair.

Your mom isn’t supposed to be the smiling angelic lady who makes no mistakes, sacrifices all her life to make others happy, that’s just the image we have of how mothers are supposed to be.

Your mom is flesh and blood.

She is a human being who went through life before you, a life that had hardships like the ones that you are facing, she was probably at some point lost, confused and maybe still is.

You can work it out

Whatever it is that is going on between the two of you, it can be sorted.

Talk to her about everything and don’t hold back, and listen to everything she has to say to you.

I guarantee you will be surprised but there is nothing like honesty to fix the situation.

Understanding

The perfect key to amending your relationship with your mother is accepting her for who she is.

Not ever wishing she was someone else and trying to understand her life choices -even the ones that negatively affected you- instead of judging her.

Tell her what’s on your mind

Most fights start due to misunderstandings.

So what you need to do is clear everything to your mom.

Tell how you feel about everything and most importantly how you feel about her and how you want to work out your relationship.

Sometimes just talking can make people come around.

Show her respect

Most middle-eastern mothers really want your respect.

It’s part of who we are and how we were raised to think, so if you want to win her heart show her respect and it’s ok to follow some orders every once in a while.

Reach out

If you want to make things between each other good again, you have to make the first move.

Call her, see how she is been doing, show up with a gift or simply sit down and talk.

She will appreciate you reaching out to her more than anything in the world.

And finally, whenever things get hard, remember that among all the people in the world, this particular woman gave you life, and that makes her on top of your favorite people.
