The Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), publishers of the Junior Graphic newspaper, has introduced the paper to schools in the Tema metropolis.
The move was to encourage all pupils, wherever they are, to have access to the paper and cultivate the habit of reading and writing.
Introducing the paper to students of the Tema Regular Baptist Academy, the Business Manager of GCGL in charge of the Tema Metropolis, Mrs Eugenia MacCready, said every child in the country should read the Junior Graphic regularly and make the paper their companion since it has a lot of interesting information to enhance the knowledge of all students.
She said the Junior Graphic has been specially designed for the youth to help them inculcate the habit of reading, adding that GCGL had subsidised the price of the paper to make it affordable.
She said the paper also organised competitions and quizzes where winners were rewarded, and advised them to patronise the paper in order to benefit from the useful prizes which are awarded during such competitions.
Mrs MacCready said apart from providing avenues for children to contribute to national issues, the Junior Graphic also publishes the Chief Examiner’s report to help guide students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to perform very well in the examinations.
The students seized the opportunity to ask questions and sought clarification on how they could contribute to the Junior Graphic.
According to the Administrator of the Tema Regular Baptist Academy, Mrs Lois Ankrah, currently the population of the school stands at 360 - made up of 200 boys and 160 girls.
She said the school which was an educational complex comprising nursery, kindergarten, primary and a junior high school was established in October 1986 with seven children under the care of Mrs Felicia Cann Odoom, a retired teacher.
