Dear Auntie Betty, I live with my parents but my dad does not have time for me. He comes home late and wakes up early for work so I hardly see him. I sometimes want him to assist me with my homework but he is never around. What should I do?

Dear Derrick, It is difficult for parents to make ends meet so most of them work tirelessly to make their children comfortable. In spite of that, I believe if your dad realises his absence is worrying you, he will try to do something about it.
If your mum is around, tell her how you feel about your dad not being around often if you can’t tell him yourself. I am sure once they get to know about this, they will address your concern because your happiness is important to them.
It would be good to look for a time when your dad is in a good mood and let him know how pleased you would be if he helped you with your homework from time to time. I believe he will understand and even if he is busy he will try to find time so he can assist you.
When he does that you should let him know how much you cherish those moments and he is likely to do so more often. It’s good to build that rapport with your parents so do not be afraid to get close to them and let them know how you feel about things. Remember they love you very much.
