Students of the St Dominic R/C Basic School at Akwatia in the Eastern Region have donated GH¢1,000 to the Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The donation formed part of the school’s 20th Anniversary celebrations.
The Headmistress of the school, Sister Victoria Jessey, said the students saved some of their pocket money during Lent so as to be able to donate to hospitals and orphanages in deprived communities.
She said the objective was to assist them to cultivate the habit of giving to the needy and at the same time encourage them to save part of their money.
A Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Kow Entsua-Mensah, thanked the teachers, students and pupils of the school for the donation and wished them well in their endeavours.
As part of their tour of parts of Accra, the schoolchildren also visited the Graphic Communications Group Limited and donated GH¢200 to the Graphic Needy Fund.
Meanwhile, students of the Holy Child School, St Paul Lutheran School as well as staff and students of the Bawjiase Junior High School have also made donations to the Graphic Needy Fund.
