The Kadjebi District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Daniel Agbesi Latsu, has called on the youth in school to join the education of Ghanaians on the core values, principles and objectives of the 1992 Constitution.
He said understanding the Constitution enabled citizens to know the rules, demands and ethics of partisan politics and that adequate knowledge of the Constitution would enable the electorate to participate fully in the processes involved in the governance of the country at all levels.
Mr Latsu said this during the inauguration of the Poase Cement L/A Junior High School Civic Education Club at Poase Cement in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region.
He also appealed to the youth to help create and sustain awareness of constitutional democracy among Ghanaians for the achievement of political and social stability of the country.
He said democracy is government by the consent of all and also a system of rights and responsibilities.
According to Mr Latsu, Ghana needed vibrant civic education to socialise its citizens but, unfortunately, past and present governments had not demonstrated much commitment to the issues of civic education.
An Assistant Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, Mr Gabriel Kwami Dzanka, appealed to the students to be agents of change to influence society positively in order to be able to attain a truly free society.
The Patron of the club, Mr Robert Ayivi, was grateful to the management and staff of the NCCE for the educative programme.
He advised the students to study hard to justify the investment which the government and their parents were making in them.
