The Director-General of the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Mrs Dorothy Gordon, has appealed to parents to have a deep understanding of technology and guide their children on how to effectively use it to enhance their education.
She said technology kept changing and improving, it provided the opportunity for its use for good, as well as bad things and that depended on the values of those who used it.
Mrs Gordon was speaking during the Speech and Prize-giving Day of the Queensland International School at Sakumono, near Tema.
According to her, children all over the world were using technology to study in different ways by making use of online learning resources and other digital educational content to expand their knowledge.
Mrs Gordon pointed out that online learning has made available to many world-class courses for free on the Internet, adding that this gives people choices that they could never have imagined.
She, therefore, advised everyone to make use of them and encouraged young people not only to consume technology but to give themselves the skills to create technology as well.
She said as digital technologies assumed an increasing importance in the lives of many people, it was important that people did not only consume available technology but give themselves the skills to create technology.
The Executive Director of QIS, Dr Isaac K. Adjei-Marfo, said providing quality education to the youth of Ghana was the only way to influence the capacity of young people to become even more responsible adults equipped with the needed knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them to integrate into the world of work.
The Headmaster of QIS, Mr Joseph T. Saki-Venyor, said the school had over the years developed a comprehensive curriculum aimed at the total development of children to prepare them to be able to cope with the rapidly changing scenes of life.
