The contest, which is the fourth since it started in 2012, is meant to help students to improve on their vocabulary and comprehension skills, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, the Editor of the Junior Graphic said.

She explained that the annual contest was also to enable fan club members and, indeed, all basic school students to learn how words are pronounced correctly and spelt so that they can read and write well.

Highlights of this year’s competition which takes place across the country include the preliminary stages where the fan clubs would compete in various groups. The clubs which would emerge winners at the group stages would qualify for the knock-out stage.

At the knockout stage, more schools would be eliminated in order to select regional representatives for the semi-finals. For instance, fan clubs in Cape Coast and Takoradi, would compete in the regional group for the best club to represent one of the two regions.

Similar pairings would be for contestants in the Volta and Eastern regions; Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions while the three northern regions--- Northern, Upper East and Upper West--- would compete to select a winner.

The winner from these regional groupings would meet the two representatives from Greater Accra and Tema at the semi-final stage.

The four best schools that qualify during the semi-final would be joined by  the reigning champions, the University Primary School in Cape Coast for the final contest   to be held in Accra during the annual Junior Graphic Fun Fair.

As has been done each year, attractive prizes would be at stake for the winners of this year’s contest.

Meanwhile, the competition for Group One in the Greater Accra Region, comprising Happy Kids School, Rene Educational Centre and The Lord’s Academy took off last week with the Happy Kids School taking the first position.

King and Queen Preparatory School, which was part of the group, was unable to participate in the competition.
