Fourteen-year-old Mathew Azidizian Adombila, a student of the Fountain Gate International School (FGIS) at Winkogo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, has emerged victorious in a special Independence Day quiz competition organised for junior high school students in the region.
Mathew, a native of Winkogo, a peri-urban community in the district, came tops in the competition organised by the Win-Bia Care Foundation, a Bolgatanga-based non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The quiz was one of the academic exercises organised by the foundation for basic school students to mark the celebration of the country's 59th Independence anniversary on March 6.
There was also an essay competition, which nine-year-old Emmanuella Oforiwaa Ofosu won.
The initiative by the foundation which was dubbed ‘Win-Bia Care Independence Day Best Brain Competition’ was aimed at providing a platform for the students to compete for prizes.
During the final contest when was broadcast live on A1 Radio, a Bolgatanga-based FM station, Mathew beat off competition from Mary Magdalene Tee of the Fountain International, Bolgatanga, and Fahaad Yakubu Ayamga of Victory International School, to emerge the winner.
All the winners were awarded with kiddie accounts from the First Allied Savings and Loans Company Limited, a certificate, a hamper from Rain Inn Supermarket and books from Derisco Bookshop.
The Director and Founder of Win-Bia Care Foundation, Mrs Zenabu Akubah, called on parents and stakeholders in the education sector in the region to encourage competition among the youth to encourage healthy children to study.
