Make roads safe for children

Dear Editor, I wish to highlight the need to make roads safer for children. Every year, we hear of many lives that are lost through road accidents, some of which involve children.

These accidents bring sorrow and pain to families. Since we are the future generation, we should not lose our lives through such preventable ways.

There are many things that can be done to make the roads safer for children. My foremost suggestion is that traffic wardens should be placed at major road crossings, especially those close to schools, to assist schoolchildren to cross safely.

Often, it is difficult for children to cross major roads because of their poor sense of judgement skills but with an adult at hand, it becomes easy for them.

Again, street lights should be fixed on all roads in the country to help children see vehicles clearly, especially in the evenings and early mornings when there is fog.
