The Deputy Director of Planning, Statistics and Research of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Education Office (LaDMEO), Mr Albert Tsetse, has called on teachers not to teach students only to pass their exams but to assist them to critically analyse situations and take decisions which could be workable.
He said that would pave the way for students to identify job opportunities and in the process, reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
Mr Tsetse was speaking on the theme: “Promoting leadership through quality basic education at the maiden graduation of the Osagyefo Leadership International School in Accra.
He noted that opportunities that came one’s way did not make a person a good leader but rather, the virtues and high sense of responsibility exhibited by individuals.
“To become a good leader, one must also have quality basic education that will prepare the ground for a promising future,” he added.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Seth Korgah, said the enforcement of positive behaviour among the students was important in moulding character, adding both boys and girls needed to be given equal opportunities to develop their talents.
A kindergarten graduate, Miss Priscilla Nyumu-Tei appealed to the government, African leaders and religious bodies to find a lasting solution to the abduction of the schoolgirls in Nigeria by the Boko Haram group.
Thirty-one pupils graduated from kindergarten two and 23 pupils from Primary Six.
