Dear Editor, The rate at which our forest reserves are being depleted is a major source of concern to all Ghanaians. This is because our forests are very important to the environment we live in.
Apart from protecting the soil from erosion and land degradation, our forests have been the source of rainfall, which is needed for the survival of everyone.
It is sad how people cut down trees indiscriminately without thinking of the environment. They are only interested in the financial gains they will derive from the sale of the trees.
My humble appeal is for the government to send more forestry guards to all communities to ensure that our trees are protected. People caught felling trees should be arrested and prosecuted to stop others from doing likewise.
