The Kokoben M/A Junior High School has been adjudged the Overall Best School during the 11th Annual Anansesem Competition held at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi.
By this achievement, the Kokoben M/A has picked the sole ticket from the region to participate in the grand finale of the contest in Accra in December.
Their splendid traditional costume, rendition, mastery of the Asante Twi, stagecraft, as well as their thought-provoking ‘Anansesem’ (folklore), which literally swept the judges and patrons off their feet, earned the school the ultimate prize.
The Yaa Achiaa Girls’ JHS and Father Krishe JHS placed second and third respectively.
Other participating schools were the Maakro JHS, Prempeh College Experimental Basic ‘A’, Chirapatre JHS, Asem Mixed Primary and Roman Girls’ JHS.
The contest was aimed at encouraging the pupils to have a grasp of Asante Twi, as well as to be abreast of their culture.
The competition, which started with 54 schools within the Kumasi Metropolis was scaled down to eight in the final phase to select a school to represent the region in the national contest.
The acting Director of the Centre for National Culture in the Ashanti Region, Mr Eric Tei Matey, said the programme had come to stay because of the numerous benefits to pupils.
The Deputy Director of the Kumasi Metro Education office, Mr Kwasi Esson Nunoo, assured that his outfit would support the corporate world to unearth talents in schoolchildren.
