Some old students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Junior High School (KNUST-JHS) have presented educational scholarships to 10 brilliant, needy students of their alma mater.
The gesture formed part of the numerous initiatives by these former students of the school to build the capacity of students and raise the image of their former school.
The Public Relations Officer of the group, Ms Anita Kythera Kumar, said the scholarship was their way of contributing to society by helping the less-fortunate students to move higher on the academic ladder.
She also said the members had been thinking of the best ways of helping the school and after discussions, settled on the scholarship scheme.
Aside the scholarship, she revealed, the group was planning to modernise the school’s ICT laboratory to enable the students be abreast of technological advancement.
Ms Kumar said it was the hope of the group that investing directly into the lives of these students would enable them achieve academic laurels and grow into responsible adults.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Samuel Nii Odai, urged the group to mentor the beneficiaries in addition to the scholarship package.
“Today you are sowing a seed into these students but you need to water the seed to help it grow well”, he said.
The Headmaster of KNUST JHS, Mr Eric Oti Atta, expressed gratitude to the group and called on other members of the alumni to assist the school in its quest to create an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.
He also called on all old students and other corporate bodies to support the construction of a multipurpose assembly hall which commenced 20 years ago but had not been completed due to lack of funds.
