Junior Graphic National Essay Competition launched

The Junior Graphic National Essay Competition, organised by the Graphic Communications Group Limited for all Junior High School pupils across the country, has begun.

The competition which aims to help improve the writing skills of students at the basic education level will be held under the theme: Taking a Stand for Excellence in Education. It ends on November 1, 2017.

Participants are expected to submit either a descriptive or analytic essay to the Graphic Communications offices in Accra or any of the regional offices of the company.

Explaining the modalities for the competition, the Editor of Junior Graphic, Mavis Kitcher said the best ten essays from each region will be selected to progress to the next stage.

Mrs Kitcher added that the shortlisted pupils would be made to report to the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) zonal offices across the country to write essays for a final selection.

A three-member panel of judges would be appointed to mark and select the best 10 essays while prizes would be given to 15 others for participation.

Winners would receive prizes from sponsors the sponsors of the competition including Vodafone Ghana Limited, Bic, Kingdom Books and Stationery as well as iLearn Tablets

Mrs Kitcher said: "I am excited to invite students in Junior High Schools to participate in this year's Junior Graphic National Essay Competition. Over the years Junior Graphic has engaged pupils in Junior High Schools to assist them to improve their reading, spelling and writing through weekly exercises as well as such competitions.

"Reading and writing are at the heart of education, without such a foundation students will be confronted by a lot of problems as they progress through their education".

The Education Office Director of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), James Dobson pledged his support for the Junior Graphic National Essay Competition, stressing that his outfit will be a true ally of the competition.

"So, thank you very much Graphic for supporting the National Essay Contest. Please count USAID as a true ally. Let's work together to cultivate young writers and readers, and to make Ghana an education powerhouse of Africa, and the world," he stated.
