The Junior Graphic Awaa waa School Essay Competition, organised by the MoneyGram Money Transfer and the Junior Graphic newspaper for all basic school pupils in Class Four to the Junior High School Form Three across the country, has begun.
The competition ends on October 17, 2014.
This year’s topic is “Why is it important to buy Made-in-Ghana goods?”
All essays should be posted to P.O. Box CT3428, Cantonments, Accra or be delivered to the Junior Graphic offices or via email by attaching a coupon cut out of the Junior Graphic.
Pupils who take part in the competition will be shortlisted, after which they would be made to report to the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) zonal offices across the country to write essays for a final selection.
A three-member panel of judges would be appointed to mark and select the best 13 essays.
Afterwards, the final three would be selected as the winners, with the first, second and third receiving GH¢3,000, GH¢2,500 and GH¢2,000, respectively. They will also receive schoolbags filled with stationery.
The next 10 winners will receive GH¢1,000 each plus a pack of exercise books.
This competition is in support of the Junior Graphic’s effort to improve literacy in Ghana.
In July this year, the Managing Director of GCGL, Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, on behalf of the company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the management of MoneyGram Money Transfer to collaborate and organise activities that would promote reading habits among children in Ghana. This essay competition is to assist and encourage children to read.
