The Director in charge of Pre-tertiary, Private Schools at the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Samuel Otapah Ntow, has advised parents to monitor the kind of programmes their children watch on television.
According to him, most of the programmes shown on some television channels contradict the Ghanaian culture and have resulted in indiscipline among children.
Mr Ntow, who was speaking at the 20th anniversary celebration of the Globen School on the theme: ‘20 years of Promoting Discipline in Globen School with a Sustainable Quality Education’, said the spate of indiscipline and other social vices the nation was experiencing was because some parents had neglected their duties and had not done much in the upbringing of their children.
Academic excellence, he said, is the collective responsibility of both parents and teachers, therefore, parents should not focus solely on paying school fees but also monitor their children’s academic performance to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
Mrs Gloria Obeng, the Managing Director of the school, said the 20-year journey of the school had not been smooth but by the grace of God, the school had achieved great successes.
She added that the Globen School, which started with three pupils, currently had about 700 schoolchildren.
The ceremony saw the schoolchildren reciting poems and engaging in varied cultural displays and drama.
