Globen School launches 20th anniversary

Staff and pupils of the Globen School at Tabora No. 2 in Accra have embarked on a walk as part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary celebration of the school.

The walk, which was in two segments, saw the primary and junior high school (JHS) departments going on separate routes in some suburbs of Accra.

The Primary Department started the walk amidst singing and dancing from the school’s premises through the New Market, Abrantie Spot, Nyamekye, Kata Hostel Road and then back to the school.

For the JHS Department, it was excitement throughout the exercise which started at Tesano. Accompanied by the school band, they sang, danced and displayed placards with inscriptions such as: ‘Education, a gift no one can take away’ and ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step’.

Speaking with the Junior Graphic, Joy Anin, the Girls Prefect of the school, said the walk had given them the opportunity to exercise.

According to her, they hardly exercised because they had to be in school very early and remarked that ‘’it has really been fun’’.

The Managing Director of the school, Mrs Gloria Obeng, who spoke on the theme: ‘’20 years of Promoting Discipline in Globen School with a Sustainable Quality Education’’, said discipline and hard work had been the hallmark of the school, adding that the school would continue to instil discipline among the schoolchildren.

The school, according to Mrs Obeng, was established on March 18, 1996 and has since chalked up a lot of successes.

Other activities earmarked as part of the celebration include a debate, fun fair, quizzes, sports and games. The climax of the 20th anniversary celebration comes off on Saturday, March 19 to be followed with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 20.
