‘Assist teachers to instil discipline in children’

Mrs Leonicia Langkpier, the Upper West Regional Manageress of the Catholic Education Unit has called on parents to assist teachers to instil discipline in children to enable them to grow up to become responsible adults.

She explained that when children were well nurtured and disciplined, they would become law-abiding citizens in future.

She was addressing a durbar of stakeholders in education to climax the eighth edition of the Catholic Education Week celebration in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The celebration was on the theme: “Catholic Education: Enhancing the potentials of pupils and students.”

She pointed out that some parents neglected their responsibilities, which could result in the upsurge of vices such as teenage pregnancies and drug abuse among the youth.

The manager of the catholic education unit also asked parents to collaborate with teachers to assist girls to stay in school and perform very well to be able to attain high levels in education since most of them dropped out as they went further in their education.

Mr Valentine Domopiele, a retired educationist, who chaired the function advised students to be time-conscious and respectful in order to acquire more knowledge and be productive in future.

He commended churches for their immense contribution in complementing the efforts of governments to enable children to have access to education and become independent in future.

As part of the activities to mark the week, 10 Catholic basic schools competed in cultural displays, poetry recitals and choral music.
