DEKS Institute marks Founders Day

The DEKS Educational Institute in Tema has marked a Founders Day and special congregation to acknowledge the efforts of the founders in establishing the school.

Pupils from the various departments, namely the pre-school, basic, junior and senior high schools entertained guests with a number of performances, including a Cadet Guard of Honour, poetry recitals, drama, music and dance.

Addressing the gathering, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Sonia Conliffe-Yakung, said the main focus of the school was to guide the children through an academic curriculum that would provide the pupils with the necessary skills to function as members of the society.

She said since this was done in an atmosphere of work and fun, the pupils would enjoy learning and crave for knowledge, adding that all students were guided to interact with one another with courtesy, graciousness and co-operation rather than competition.

“Our goal is to foster in the children an understanding that the way to achieve peace and justice in the world is through co-operation, sharing and caring”, she said.

Mrs Conliffe-Yakung said the school would continue to pursue programmes to ensure academic excellence and build on the school’s foundation, laid by its founders, Mr Ephraim K. Dei and his wife, Mrs Etta Eupheme Dei, and continue to make it one of the best schools in the country.

The General Manager of the school, Mr Mark Dei, disclosed that the school emerged winners of the 2015 Head of State Award for best academic excellence and also the West African Governance and Leadership award for leading private schools in West Africa presented in Togo this year.

Mr Dei urged parents and guardians not to shirk their responsibilities towards their children and wards
