The Headmaster of T I Ahmadiya ‘B’ Basic School at Asokwa in Kumasi, Mr Alhassan Brobbey, has appealed to television stations to reschedule the time for showing telenovelas in order not to jeopardise the academic fortunes of schoolchildren.
He said the current periods those programmes are telecast which were between 7:00 pm and 9:00pm were not helping pupils to focus on their studies and suggested that it should be rescheduled to late hours.
The headmaster was speaking at a ceremony for the outgoing prefects to hand over leadership to newly elected prefects of the school.
The school has a total population of over 2,000 comprising 565 junior high school students and 1,500 primary pupils.
Mr Brobbey appealed to the students and pupils to make their books their companions and spend more time studying than playing to enable them to pass their final examinations.
He lamented over the attitude of some parents regarding the education of their children.
The outgoing Boy’s Prefect, Master Dennis Adomako Boahen, commended the staff of the school for supporting them during their tenure as prefects, and appealed to the incoming prefects to work hard.
Master Dennis Adomako Boahen handed over the leadership baton to Master Samuel Abekah Mensah as the new Boy’s Prefect while Ms Patricia Adu-Poku handed over to Rosemary Bobie-Ansah, who is the new Girl’s Prefect.
