It’s all over, say these students of the Pael Preparatory and JHS, Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region at the end of their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) last Friday.

Candidates celebrate end of BECE

There were mixed feelings from Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates after the bell rang to end their last paper, French, on Friday, October 23.

While some students were dancing and jubilating for the successful completion of their exam, others were praying and thanking God for seeing them through a hectic week.

Some candidates also hugged one another and exchanged pleasantries because they might not meet again.

It was an emotional moment when the Junior Graphic visited the Accra Academy examination centre as some candidates shouted and sang thanksgiving songs while others cried because they could not

answer the questions very well.

There were others who changed into T-shirts to celebrate their successful completion of the BECE.

In an interview with one of the students, Justina Amoafi Addo of the Bubuashie 1 Basic School, Accra, she said she was proud of herself for completing the exam successfully because it was not very easy during the preparation and the writing of the papers.

“My friends and I decided to wear these new T-shirts to celebrate our success. We are very happy to have completed JHS and we know we will pass well because all the papers were not difficult. We hope to attend pre-SHS classes while we wait for our results,” she stated.

Benedicta Asantewaa of the Bubuashie SDA School, Accra, said the BECE was very challenging even though she had prepared adequately for the examinations.

She said the most difficult subjects were Mathematics and Integrated Science; nonetheless, she was grateful to have completed them.

“I want to go to Ghana National College, Cape Coast and I am sure I will pass well to gain admission to the school,” she said.

Jacklin Asikafou Afram of the Kaneshie Bishop School said, “Even though I was tensed from the start of the BECE, I am happy I was able to answer the majority of the questions. I hope to make my parents proud by passing well. I also intend to assist my parents with their work while I wait for my results.”

Nana Efua Mensah of the Akweibu JHS, Accra, who aspires to become an Immigration officer said the BECE was an interesting experience for her.

“The whole week has been hectic, and even though I fell sick along the way, I am hopeful I will pass,” she noted.

Etornam Gallery of the Ideel Community School, Accra, said the exam was very easy because he had prepared adequately for it. He intends to attend computer classes to equip himself with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills while he awaits his results.

He used the opportunity to advise his fellow candidates to stay safe and celebrate their successes calmly.

“Do not engage in any acts of indiscipline simply because you have completed JHS; instead, go to church and thank God and make merry cautiously,” he said.

From HO-KPODZI, Alberto Mario Noretti reports that the BECE candidates at the Ho-Kpodzi E.P. JHS D Centre were in a joyful mood after writing the final paper. The Examinations Coordinator of the Ho Municipality, F. Dedume, said 265 candidates registered for the French paper, out of which four did not turn up for the examination.

In all, 393 sat the BECE at the centre, where no untoward incident was recorded during the examination.

The examination materials arrived at the centre ahead of time and candidates were all punctual, Mr Dedume said.
