The Senior Marketing Manager of BIC, West and Central Africa, Mr Leonard Ehouabolet, launched the contest and said it was initiated to assist schoolchildren to develop their talents in their spare time.

“Most of the time students focus on Mathematics and Science and pay less attention to their talents especially in the field of art. For BIC, it is not only about using our products but it is about practising your talents at school and home,” he stressed.

The Business Development Manager of BIC for Ghana and Cameroon Clusters, Mr George Nkonsah, explained that the contest was mooted by the company to engage some basic schools in Ghana, specifically in the Greater Accra, Eastern and Ashanti regions, in a drawing and colouring competition to produce beautiful and innovative pieces of art.

According to him, the contest sought to create opportunities for parents and schoolchildren to discover the different range of products BIC offered aside the traditional ball pen.

“Contestants will be required to showcase their drawing skills using BIC crayons, colouring pencils and felts. Without these, entries will be rejected, he said.

On the road map of the competition, Mr Nkonsah disclosed that participating students would be given samples of their art papers immediately after the launch and would be tasked to draw on the theme: “My COVID Experience,” noting that for fair participation, contestants would be grouped into two categories: Classes 1 to 5 in category A and classes 6 to JHS 3 in category B.

Mr Nkonsah said “this edition will feature 30 schools from the three selected regions from which two contestants from each school will compete at the grand finale scheduled for June 10, 2021 in Accra.

He noted that emerging winners would receive scholarships, souvenirs and some other consolation prizes.

The special guest of Honour for the occasion, Mr Yaw Ofosu Safori, a renowned artist expressed his satisfaction with the organisation of the contest and urged children to practise on daily basis whatever they had passion for, especially in the arts.
