Be-Light students in cooking contest

Students of Be-Light International School have been encouraged to maintain personal hygiene to prevent diseases.

According to culinary expert Mrs Vivian Ama Barasu of the Mabdevs Catering Service, maintaining personal hygiene can reduce odour and improve one’s appearance.

Mrs Barasu made the call at the school’s annual “Show your cooking skills” competition.

The programme was aimed at giving students an opportunity to show their culinary skills.

During the event, the entire students were segmented into 13 groups and asked to prepare various dishes ranging from local to continental.

Akple with hot pepper, fufu and light soup and apaparansa with crabs, brown rice with beans stew and vegetable rice and shito were prepared by the schoolchildren.

Mrs Barasu, who was a judge at the programme, urged the students to thoroughly wash vegetables with clean water during food preparation and also endeavour to tidy up their cooking environment.

She explained that cooking was an art and that those passionate about it would have to be skillful in order to stay in business.

At the end of the competition, Group One emerged the most creative and took home the Overall Best prize for the competition.

Groups Seven and Nine took awards for table setting and tasty food respectively.
