Auntie Betty: My breasts are too small
Dear Auntie Betty, I am 15 and in junior high school Form Three.
I started developing breasts at the age of nine.

Although, I started developing breasts earlier than some of my mates, I have noticed that my breasts are small compared to my friends’ of the same age.
Would my breasts change in size as time goes on? I am worried.

Dear Abena, We all have unique physical features and so you should not be worried at all about the size of your breasts. Some females have small breasts while others have big ones.
Your breasts can change in size and shape throughout your life. There are some factors which determine the size of your breasts.
According to experts, these include your family genes, age, weight, menstrual cycle and pregnancy.
If you are not happy about your breasts as you are feeling now, it will have an impact on your self-image and may lower your self-esteem. This may have an effect on your health and your academic work.
So I suggest you stay positive about the size of your breasts now and love them for what they are. You are still young and it is possible you will see a change in the size and shape of your breasts as the years go by.
We all go through phases in our life when we do not like certain parts or features of our body. But it is important that you learn getting used to the fact that your body will continue to change as you grow.
It is also necessary that you accept certain features that you have - for all you know, your friends with bigger breasts wish they had smaller breasts because there are pros and cons for every situation. We are different and so will definitely not possess the same body features.
Learn to love yourself and accept your breasts because there is nothing wrong with you. Your dreams, goals, talents and aspirations in life should be of utmost importance to you now.
If you are still not comfortable with the size of your breast, talk to your parents to assist you to see a gynaecologist.
