Twenty-nine students of the Asare Oppong School Complex have taken a familiarisation trip to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.
The importance of the trip was to enable the schoolchildren to see the KIA, learn the processes of travelling by air and experience how it feels to be up in the air.
All the 29 students also had the opportunity to board an aeroplane.
The students were transported from the Takoradi Airport very early in the morning to Accra and went through the immigration checks as if they were really embarking on a journey outside Ghana.
While on board the plane, the flight attendants demonstrated to the students how to use the jacket and fasten the seat belts when the plane was about to take off.
Most of the students were initially nervous when the aeroplane took off because it was their first experience.
After travelling for 30 minutes, the plane touched down at KIA and the students were met on arrival by Mr Kobby Okyere Darko, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi. He welcomed them and also gave them the opportunity to ask questions.
Afterwards, the students were taken round Terminal Two of the KIA and they were educated on the processes travellers went through before they boarded the aeroplanes to their various destinations.
Later, the students met and took pictures with the flight crew of Ethiopia Airlines.
After the tour, however, the students went to Marina Mall for lunch and to shop.
They returned to Terminal One at the KIA for the return trip to Takoradi.
All the students agreed that the flight was a memorable experience.
